THE ELEMENTS & PLANT PARTS
Each of the FOUR ELEMENTS in turn relates to one of 4 PLANT PARTS. As a result specific parts of a plant’s form are influenced. These forces are activated in the atmosphere when the MOON is in front of a constellation. (Sun and Planets also play a part here, but that is outside the scope of this publication.)
This method is popular with gardeners around the world and very good results are reported. There are ongoing studies aiming to verify these correlations.
As far the average gardener is concerned, simply follow the symbols on the chart in the Moon Planting Guide.
For more advanced usage you can consult the
Antipodean Astro Calendar available from the same publishers.
THE PROPOSITION
Practitioners of this method consider that forces are acting through the 12 CONSTELLATIONS that make up the Zodiac and thus affect plant growth forms. Each constellation relates to one of the 4 CLASSICAL ELEMENTS: Fire, Air, Water, Earth.

ILLUSTRATION EXPLANATION
The picture on the left visualises symbolically the interaction between Earth and the Stars. Here the outer ring represents the 12 Constellations of the Zodiac. Each constellation is associated with an ancient ELEMENT. The SUN is represented by the yellow line and it takes 1 year to complete the circuit. The MOON PHASES represent 1 Earth month (word root: moonth). As the MOON passes between Zodiac and Earth the subtle, influences on our atmosphere change according to the element that has been triggered by the Moon. The specific daily element is of interest to the gardener and is worked with accordingly.

The 12 ZODIAC Constellations are the pathway against the starry background that Sun, Planets and Moon travel in front of. The SUN takes 1 month to move to the next constellation bringing longer term stellar influences into the Solar System. The MOON moves rapidly, bringing changing elemental stellar influences every 2 to 3 days.
On EARTH the gardener adjusts activities to balance prevailing and anticipated conditions.
